Ahaus

The intermediate storage facility for fuel elements in Ahaus im Münsterland started operation in 1991. There is room in the halls for 1500 tons of nuclear waste. In 1998 there were major protests against storing "Castor" containers with highly-radioactive fuel elements from southern German reactors.
